Show Notes Chapter Markers

A native of Australia, Gary Scott has been traveling and exploring the world for over 50 years. He has been running his own adventure travel trips since 1982, when he started a trekking and guiding company - Alpine Ascents - in Kathmandu, Nepal, at the age of 24. He has led over 250 international adventure trips, including 40 trips in Nepal, and over 100 tours in the Dolomites of northern Italy, his favorite place in the world.

In 1986, Gary set a world record for the fastest unsupported solo ascent of Denali in Alaska. He was the first person ever to climb Denali in a single day, climbing it solo from the 7,000-foot landing strip to the 20,320-foot summit in a superhuman 18-1/2 hours, a record time that stood for 27 years.

He has been a team member on two successful Mt. Everest expeditions, himself reaching 27,500 feet without supplemental oxygen before turning back to assist a sick Sherpa guide. He has also co-led expeditions to Mt. Kanchenjunga, the third highest peak in the world, and to the technical Mt. Ama Dablam, as well as to many other big mountains in Nepal.

Though now fully retired from mountaineering, Gary still has a huge passion for taking people walking in the mountains and, in 2008, he founded Right Path Adventures, an award-winning international adventure travel company that provides first-class experiences to his clients.

On his trips, Gary encourages people to move past their self-imposed doubts and fears, and he has a knack for helping people push themselves beyond what they ever thought they could do or achieve.

Over the years, Gary has also authored rock climbing and triathlon guidebooks, as well as the highly inspirational book "Summit Strategies - Secrets to Mastering the Everest in Your Life".
